Why is one room always hotter than the others?

This is a very common complaint… the one room that is always hotter than others in the summer. If it’s a bedroom, family drama ensues when its occupant is always turning down the AC and freezing out everyone else! Well, there actually are some practical ways to even out the temperature in your home. Check out these ideas:

Better windows

Double pane windows really can make a difference in a room’s temperature. Now might be the time to consider changing out the windows in the room that runs hot.

Plug those leaks

Maybe it’s not just the windows that are the problem, but also the area around them. Are there cracks or leaks that need to be sealed? This is a quick and easy solution that can make a big difference.

Better window coverings

Now that your windows are efficient, be sure that your window coverings are. Choose a thicker curtain in a light color to keep out as much sunlight and heat as possible.

Hit the power button

Is the room full of electronics? Those can create a surprising amount of heat, especially desktop computers. If possible, plug your electronics into power strips so that they can easily be turned off altogether when not in use.

Install fans

A quality ceiling fan or box fan can make a huge difference in a warm room. Is your ceiling fan too small for your room? Or not powerful enough? Consider an upgrade.

Go portable

If all else fails, consider purchasing a portable air conditioner. This will allow you to keep the rest of the house at an appropriate temperature, but also cool the room when needed.
