7 ways to lower AC costs this summer

Based on information from the U.S. EIA (Energy Information Administration), residents pay an average monthly electricity bill of $126.44 which is about 13% higher than the national average.

So here are 7 ways to maximize energy efficiency and to lower your AC costs.

1.Ceiling fan

A ceiling fan is definitely not an alternative to an Air Conditioning system. But it does circulate air and helps to reduce temperature to up to 4 degrees cooler. Make sure the blades of the fan is clean and free from any debris. Using AC in the evening and then running a fan will definitely ensure maximum energy savings.

2.Programmable thermostat

Upgrade to a programmable thermostat if you haven’t. A programmable thermostat allows you to reduce energy consumption by up to 15% for a household.

3.Turn off appliances when not in use

There are a lot of home appliances like the T.V, computer, dishwasher and clothes dryer that causes the heat to build up inside the house. Limit the use of such appliances and turn them off when not in use.

4. Reduce indoor cooking

Summers are great to have barbecues and grill and also a fantastic way to reduce heat buildup inside the house.

5. Use blinds and curtains

Using blinds and curtains will reduce the amount of sunlight entering the house and eventually reduce heat. Make use of dark colored blinds that reduces the amount of sunlight inside the house.
